Habibi Funk is a Berlin-based DJ and record label founded by Jannis Stürtz, dedicated to uncovering and reintroducing rare Arabic funk, soul, and disco from the 1960s–80s. His journey began in the early 2000s, leading to the label’s first release: a rediscovered Moroccan reinterpretation of a 1970s rock classic. Since then, Habibi Funk has built an expansive catalog, reissuing both compilations and artist-focused records from across the region, including pioneering musicians such as Kamal Keila, Sharhabil Ahmed, Ahmed Malek, and Al Massrieen. Through both his label and DJ sets, Stürtz brings these timeless sounds to new audiences worldwide, blending deep musical research with dancefloor sensibility.
Darone Sassounian moves fluidly across house, disco, jazz, and rare international selections, with sets that balance deep digging and eclectic sounds. Drawing from his Armenian roots and SWANA diaspora upbringing, his work often highlights rare Armenian funk, woven into forward-thinking and unpredictable selections. Also an accomplished producer, he has released on Habibi Funk, Terrestrial Funk, and his own label, Rocky Hill.
